With the change in weather, there is no excuse to not get out and get some exercise – and by joining Get Fit Clovis, you can do just that.
GFC, now in its second month of its Fall 90-Day Fitness Challenge, offers free workouts and nutritional workshops every Saturday at local parks, trails and gyms from 8-10 a.m.
New to this campaign are nutritional workshops and interval training.
During the workshops, participants are introduced to new and creative ideas on how to eat healthy. Past meets have included workshops on how to make infused waters, healthy snacking and the importance of electrolytes. Meet ups here in the month of October will feature fall-themed workshops like how to make autumn infused water, health benefits of pumpkin and how to have your pumpkin spice frappuccino and stay fit.
Also making its debut this fall is interval training which challenges participants and pushes them. Cones will be set up on the trails 90 feet apart from each other. Between stations, participants will be asked to either sprint, jog, hop, skip, lunge – anything but walk.
GFC also switches it up by offering yoga sessions led by Fulton Yoga Collective during the first meet of every month. The final yoga session of the fall challenge will be taking place Nov. 5 at Treasure Ingmire Park.
Senior walks will also take place on Mondays at Dry Creek Park at 9 a.m.
Coming up is GFC Fest, featuring a pumpin’ pumpkin workout, fun and easy dance Michael Jackson’s ‘Thriller’ lead by choreographer A.J. Lacuesta. Lacuesta is a US Navy Veteran and a 1st-degree black belt. He received his bachelor’s and master’s degree from California State University, Fresno and started teaching group fitness in 2008 at the Student Recreation Center. He is currently teaching and creating his own fitness programs for Kids Moving Inc. and is a dance choreographer for hire. The nutrition workshop will be about the health benefits of pumpkin and how to cook healthy using pumpkin.
To get into the Halloween spirit, Get Fit will have a doggy costume contest Oct. 22 at Treasure Ingmire Park with cardio with your dog as the featured workout. Nutrition workshop that day will include healthy Halloween treats for people and pets.
Oct. 29: Clovis Fest at rodeo grounds, 7 a.m.
On rainy days, GFC will meet at the Clovis Area Recreational Center located at 3495 Clovis Ave.
