Fitness partners can help keep us motivated and looking forward to our workouts time and time again, but exercise buddies don’t always have to be human — canines can also encourage their owners to go outside and get moving.
After the Get Fit Clovis team saw an overwhelming amount of positive feedback at our first Get Fit Doggie Saturday meet in June, we decided to do it all again.
The July 9 meet officially started at 7 a.m., with a 6 a.m. pre-run lead by special guest Scott Forrester.
Fitness expert Ruben Rodriguez, owner of Undoubted Training, began the meet with strengthening exercises. Rodriguez showed the participants how to incorporate the park’s built-in fitness equipment located along Dry Creek Trail into their every day workout by training in circuits. Using the equipment creatively, Rodriguez explained, so that a machine intended to be used as a shoulder press can easily be utilized as a stepping stool to workout legs or even as a bench to do dips, which strengthen triceps. After demonstrating four different workouts with participants using the equipment, he said that by alternating between running and strength training individuals can maximize their exercise.
After the warmup, the trainers of Undoubted were available to answer any questions and advise people on their personal fitness goals. They also offer special Get Fit Clovis pricing on individual fitness assessments.
Once the runners, joggers and walkers arrived from the run/walk with their dogs they were greeted by special guest Bailee Patten, from Canine Agility Club of Fresno, and her border collie Riley. The pair demonstrated agility training using jumps, weave poles, a tunnel and a chute. This agility equipment was available for all doggies to try.
